Why did you choose to enter this work?
This project is very close to my heart, and I want to make people aware of this topic. I nearly became a carpenter myself and got a glimpse of how it feels to work in that industry as a queer person.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
Peoples faces when I open the triptych like a door, the colors show and seeing them fully emerge in the experience.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
It's incredible to receive recognition for a project that I dedicated so much time and effort to.
Where do you usually work?
I only moved into my studio this year. While working on the triptych, I rented a space from a stonemason. It was so dusty! We had to move huge stones around and cover everything in plastic.
How long did it take to complete your project?
From the background research and planning to building the triptych and transport trolley, preparing it for painting and finally painting it, the whole process took me about a year.
What is your dream commission?
I would love to work on a campaign for the Soccer World Cup. I am an absolute soccer boi.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
People and tools.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Never put your pen down.
What are your plans for the future?
I really got hooked working on a bigger scale! More murals, more sculptural work!
