Why did you choose to enter this work?
gemüsefreunde is a project from the heart, both in terms of content and form. i was so happy that my publisher gave me freedom in form and design and supported the printing with five spot colours.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
the book contains diverse types of images and texts, e.g. scenes, portraits, individual vegetables, headlines, quotations ...which are all held together by the five colours and their mixtures.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
it is an honour for me to be chosen by aoi and his great jury and to be among so many wonderful illustrators from all over the world.
Where do you usually work?
i like to work in my office community because i love the exchange among colleagues and the concentrated atmosphere. sometimes i work at home, preferably when the other family members are asleep:)
How long did it take to complete your project?
it took two years from the first idea to the finished book.
What is your dream commission?
i would love to do a book about the beatles because i have loved them since i was a child because my mum listened to them a lot. and i would also really like to do a graphic novel about a special pers
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
my favourite things to draw are people, animals and nature. when it comes to bicycles, i always have to think about the shape of the frame first
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
draw every day and have fun with your pictures and inventions. believe in yourself, others will follow.
What are your plans for the future?
i follow the tip of the last question and am happy when nice ideas and books develop.
