Why did you choose to enter this work?
I'm really proud of this work! I really loved translating my illustrations into life-sized, 3D experiences using the humble material of cardboard.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I enjoyed the learning process of the making of this artwork. In collaborating with Trio Packaging, I discovered so much possibilities with cardboard as a medium. And it's all recyclable!

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I hope to do more work like this in the future. Perhaps window displays! I am excited to share the wonders of cardboard as a sustainable material in creating installations.

Where do you usually work?
I usually work from home, in a tiny corner. That's where I paint or illustrate digitally. Sometimes when I need a change of environment, I head to a library or local cafe to work.

How long did it take to complete your project?
Whilst I designed the installation a few months before the project's launch, majority of the illustration and fabrication process took place within a 2 month timeframe.

What is your dream commission?
Window displays! I love to build worlds and create experiences that people can escape into. I also illustrate for books and it has been a dream of mine to work with the Folio Society at some point.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Strange creatures that wander into my thoughts. But also (in contrast), I enjoy drawing everyday life, and trying to find the extraordinary in the seemingly mundane.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Take risks but also be strategic. Stand your ground but also consider opposing viewpoints. Don't fret about trends yet be aware of them. Make art for yourself but for others too. It's all a balance.

What are your plans for the future?
I've been working on a few children's books that will be released in the years to come. I have no idea where that'll take me! But I'll just run with it, make art and be happy.
