Why did you choose to enter this work?
This was one of my first attempts at conceptual illustration. The response it received encouraged me to share it more widely.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I was happy to be able to convert the core idea of the story into a visual that was both simple, deep and emotionally resonant, while adding relevant details to make the work as beautiful as possible.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
This was one of my earliest editorial illustrations, yet it was recognized alongside amazing work from around the world.
Where do you usually work?
I work from a desk at in my room using my laptop, primarily creating vector illustrations. Occasionally, I switch to the dining table when I need a change of pace.
How long did it take to complete your project?
It took about two weeks, from initial concept development through rough explorations and final execution.
What is your dream commission?
I’d love to create a conceptual print magazine cover, and also work on an illustrated visual campaign made up of multiple images that build a layered narrative.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I enjoy drawing objects and visual metaphors that break down complex stories. Outside of that, I’m interested in exploring landscapes more seriously and bringing that into my portfolio in the future.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Visual Literacy is important, understanding and being able to articulate the visual elements and the little effects they have on a piece always goes a long way.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to continue creating thoughtful, conceptual illustrations while developing more of my skills in art direction and visual storytelling at a broader scale.
