Why did you choose to enter this work?
We chose this project because we like how this animation shows a world that expects you to blend in to belong. This project was also a turning point for us as it's one that helped us define our style.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
We love how the animation loops, we kinda want to look at it forever. It ties in well with the idea of an endless flow of similar people.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
We are at the start of our illustration journey so our work gaining some recognition is such a moral boost. It encourages us to keep going and make a lot more projects
Where do you usually work?
We work from home! We've got a cozy office room with our two desks sitting next to each other, often with our little dog Nooch curling at our feet.
How long did it take to complete your project?
We were working full time while we were doing this project, so we jumped back into it whenever we had a bit of free time. We completed it in a week or so, though mulled over the idea for a bit longer.
What is your dream commission?
We would love to do an editorial piece. We both read a lot of article and try to stay informed on what is happening in the world. Being able to illustrate an article would feel really purposeful.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Characters! We found a way to draw characters that have quite minimal features but can also be quite expressive in their poses. They are really fun to draw with their ball-shaped hands.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
We'd say what helps us is to try to get as many projects out as possible. Like a small personal project on your free time, it might be imperfect but you learn for the next one and then the next.
What are your plans for the future?
We would love to work in editorial. At the moment we are working as CG artists but in the long run we would love to make illustration our main activity.
